Coaster designer and manufacturer The Katz Group based in Leeds, has been bought by German based The Koehler Paper Group, which has an annual turnover of more than £600m.
Katz, which also has operations in the US, France and Germany, said the acquisition would secure its position as a market leader in the worldwide coaster market.
UK managing director Garry Hobson said Koehler’s investment plans for the business meant it was looking towards a fantastic future.
“The £4.5m investment from Koehler is a clear signal that the long term future of Katz and its associate companies will continue."
Katz UK partner with international brands, creating innovative coaster concepts through to finished product. This includes scratch and sniff, fluorescent ink and ‘peel and reveal’ technologies.
Mr Hobson added: “It is our job as world market leaders to ensure that both existing and new clients understand how valuable the advertising and promotion element of the product is, with many leading brands using coasters to promote campaigns during the World Cup.”
Koehler's board director Kai Furler said of the £4.5m acquisition: “Katz and Koehler are similar in many ways. Both are world leaders, and both aspire to be cost leaders in their sector. This makes the acquisition right from the beginning and we look forward to a profitable, stronger future together.”
