Syntopix Group, one of the world’s leading skin condition treatment specialists, is in talks with global healthcare giants following the completion of ‘milestone’ clinical trials.
The Bradford-based university spin-out is already working with two of the world’s largest consumer healthcare firms including Procter & Gamble and is now looking to create similar partnerships as a result of its pioneering acne research.
Syntopix was founded in 2003 as a spin-out from Leeds University by Dr Jon Cove and Dr Anne Eady – both of whom are internationally recognised as leading experts in skin microbiology.
The group, which specialises in the discovery of topical antimicrobials for healthcare and pharmaceutical applications, is based at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Innovation in Bradford giving it access to the expertise in skin biology, formulation and toxicology at the universities of Bradford and Leeds.
Syntopix' shareholders include The Wellcome Trust.
Chief executive Dr Stephen Jones said: "The big guys are taking us seriously and what we are most excited about is the continued business we do with blue chip companies.
"The group has now established links with two of the world’s largest consumer healthcare companies from which we envisage generating revenue streams in the near future. The successful Phase II cosmetic study completed after the year end is a significant milestone for the group and will contribute to Syntopix entering into further commercial agreements.”
The group is now focussing strategically on the commercial development of its three leading products, which each have multiple potential applications in skincare, hair care and oral care.
