Yorkshire based surgical device manufacturer Surgical Innovations has struck a three-year deal to supply one of the largest group purchasing organisations in the US, providing access to over 2,200 hospitals.
The company, which specialises in tools used during keyhole surgery, agreed the deal with the group purchasing organisation (GPO), which helps its member hospitals reduce costs by buying in bulk.
Its US distributor, Surgical Innovations US, has agreed the deal with the group purchasing organisation (GPO), through its US distributer, Surgical Innovations US, which helps its member hospitals reduce costs by buying in bulk.
Surgical Innovations is hoping the agreement will create a much larger market for its Resposable and LogiRange devices. The latter combine reusable handles with disposable scissor blades which the business says give surgeons high quality, but cost effective tools.
Managing director Graham Bowland said: "This agreement with one of the US's leading GPOs strengthens Surgical Innovations' strategy of developing the LogiRange brand through our collaboration with SI USA.
“The 2,200 member hospitals represent a considerable proportion of all US hospitals therefore the agreement provides us with significant access to the US laparoscopic instrumentation market, which is estimated to be worth $150m per annum."
The healthcare technology sector is a key sector for Yorkshire & Humber and more than 300 businesses operate out of the region including Smith & Nephew, Johnson & Johnson and Covance as well as university spin-outs Syntopix and Avacta.
The sector employs more than 10,000 people and is growing four times faster in the region than the rest of the UK.
