Yorkshire South Tourism is celebrating the success of a scheme designed to support professional organisations staging conferences in Sheffield.
The Ambassador Programme has brought in £1.5 million by winning valuable new business for the region.
It encourages local professionals and academics to bring events - organised by associations, societies and businesses - to Sheffield.
Events already hosted in the region include the International Workshop on Pattern Recognition in Bioinformatics, the UK Polymer Showcase, the National Sports Development Seminar and the Inaugural Careers in Sport and Leisure Exhibition.
Don Stewart, interim chief executive of Yorkshire South Tourism, said: "The Ambassador Programme was launched into the teeth of the recession yet it has achieved incredible results.
"By engaging in a new way with professionals and academics, the programme has won valuable new business for the sub-region. It proves once again that people buy people - and that in Yorkshire South we have some of the best people in the country."
