Drax secures new deal with Centrica
Donnerstag, 5 November 2009
Selby-based power station operator Drax has secured a five-deal to supply Centrica with 300MW of baseload power.
Drax said the payment will be decided with reference to the international prices of coal, while Centrica will deliver matching carbon allowances.
The agreement will run from October 2010 to September 2015 and volume of the contract equivalent to a load factor of around 8% for the period.
Drax chief executive Dorothy Thompson said: "As with the first Centrica agreement in 2006, this not only gives Drax options over how and when to dispatch power but is also consistent with our progressive hedging policy.
"Moreover, locking in dark green spreads out to 2015 clearly demonstrates that there is appetite for deals beyond 2012."
The company, which operates the UK's biggest coal fired power station, said last month that it was trading in line with expectations despite difficult conditions in commodity markets.
