Firms urged to use Yorkshire goods

A Chamber of Commerce chief is urging firms in the country to take advantage of Yorkshire's manufacturing expertise instead of sourcing products from outside the UK.
According to Ian Williams - spokesman for Leeds Manufacturing and policy director at Leeds, York & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce - companies could save thousands of pounds a year by using products manufactured in the region.
This way companies can help each other to prosper as well as contribute to the overall economic recovery.
Mr Williams said: "Manufacturing and local enterprise will be key to the continued regional recovery where there are already encouraging signs."
Highlighting the potential of Yorkshire, he said "Leeds is the second largest employer outside London for manufacturing". The city has as many as 36,000 people working in the sector, with some 148,600 people involved in manufacturing business in the wider Leeds city region.
He added: "Many firms have over the past decade become used to sourcing products overseas, or from suppliers around the UK, and we often forget about, or are unaware of the vast range of manufacturers and products that they produce right here in Leeds and the other towns and cities in Yorkshire."
