Dienstag, 18 November 2008
A special sports engineering qualification designed to help athletes in the run up to the London Olympics in 2012 has been set up at the Sheffield Hallam University in Yorkshire.
The MSc Sports Engineering will start in September next year and is the first of its type in the UK.
It has been developed by university researchers in collaboration with a number of top industry contacts, including Puma, Adidas the International Tennis Federation.
Dr David James, the course leader, said: "This course will stand out globally as well as nationally, delivering highly adapted and capable engineers directly to the sports industry."
The Yorkshire-based university is one of eight UK Sport Innovation partners, and Mr James noted that the new course is part of the institution's role in this.
Sheffield Hallam is one of four higher education bodies to have been given the role.
Last month, the university launched its Elite Hallam scheme, which is designed to offer increased support for its top athletes.
