Marshalls reports rise in profits
Dienstag, 31 August 2010
Huddersfield-based landscape products group Marshalls almost doubled its half-year pre-tax profits to £7.5 million compared with the previous year, as it recovered from a weather-blighted start to the year.
The group had incurred a £2 million one-off cost from severe weather in early 2010, with disruptions in deliveries and quarry work as well as damage to some of its products.
With a recovery in its landscape products market in the second quarter of the year, the company posted a 3% year-on-year rise in its like-for-like sales to the public sector and commercial end market.
Its strategies include reinforcing its position in the landscape market, while demand from the public sector and commercial end market is also expected to rise slightly in late 2010 and early 2011.
Marshalls' new range of security bollards - launched in June in collaboration with the Government to tackle vehicle terrorist attacks on important landmarks, government buildings and densely populated areas - has attracted enquiries worth over £1 million.
