Plans in place for Elland Road

Leeds United has revealed plans for a development of the football club's Elland Road complex.

The project will involve the erection of a 350-room hotel in the south-east corner of the stadium and will create over 200 jobs, if the plans get the green light.

Ken Bates, the chairman of Leeds United, is to submit plans for the development to Leeds city council and, if the project is allowed to commence, building will start before the end of next year.

"Football grounds are used for 25 days a year to play football, it's important not to forget about the other 340 days you don't play football," Mr Bates said.

He added that the development would be a step towards ensuring the stadium is used throughout the year and making Elland Road into a destination that people wanted to visit.

Leeds United are currently second in League One, three points behind Scunthorpe in first place.
