Supermarket could create hundreds of Sheffield jobs

A major supermarket chain could soon be creating hundreds of jobs in South Yorkshire, Sheffield council has revealed.
Asda has been appointed the preferred bidder on the multimillion-pound regeneration scheme planned for the Southey and Owlerton area of the city.
Jobs could be created both in construction and retail if the project receives approval at a Sheffield City Council Cabinet meeting next week.
It is hoped the scheme will be a boost to locals - the regeneration plans include a new medical centre, library learning centre, shops and a new public square.
Councillor Bob McCann, Sheffield councils' cabinet member for housing and sustainable, safer communities, said: "This move is great news for the area and is something local people are supportive of and want to see happen.
"It should mean jobs for local people, which, in the current economic climate, is good news indeed."
Doncaster council has announced further Future Prospects events, which aim to bring careers advice help to residents' doorsteps.
