Website offers Olympic contracts

Yorkshire firms have been urged to invest in website workshops that will help them secure contracts for the 2012 Olympics.
The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) announced it will release £700 million worth of contracts, and the Yorkshire Gold Business Club (YGBC) plans to ensure businesses in the region have the chance to bid for the work.
With funding from regional development agency Yorkshire Forward, YGBC asked companies to register and create a business profile on CompeteFor.com, which provides details of opportunities in eight sectors, including catering, facilities management, logistics, PR, security and transport.
Reportedly, 50% of contracts awarded so far went to companies outside Greater London, and 70% to small and medium enterprises.
YGBC will hold its first CompeteFor workshop in December to help firms get the most out of the free service.
Jim Farmery, assistant director of business at Yorkshire Forward, said: "By linking local businesses with contract providers we hope the region will play a significant part in the delivery of the Games and that the contracts won in the area will see business growth and encourage further investment in Yorkshire."
