Yorkshire farmers given boost
Mittwoch, 17 Juni 2009
Farmers and producers in Yorkshire are set to receive a boost following the opening of a regional agricultural centre.
The £5.1 million project has just been opened and was created with the intention of giving a focal point for agricultural practices in the north.
"There's a growing recognition that successful food and farming businesses will help pull Britain out of the recession," noted Simon Theakston, chairman of the Yorkshire Agricultural Society (YAS).
He added that there is still a demand for locally-produced food despite the credit crunch, with the rural economy helping to innovate and locate new markets.
The building is located at the Great Yorkshire Showground in Harrogate and boasts 20 sustainable features, noted Stuart Falshaw, managing director of the construction firm behind it.
YAS was founded in 1837 and aims to promote and improve agriculture throughout the county through a programme of events for schoolchildren, teachers and students.
